เรามาดูตัวอย่างประโยค needn’t (ไม่จำเป็นต้อง) เปรียบเทียบกับ mustn’t (ต้องไม่, อย่า) เพิ่มเติมกันหน่อย ดูตัวอย่างกันว่าเราควรจะใช้ needn’t หรือ mustn’t ในเหตุการณ์แบบไหนบ้าง  [needn’t + Verb] = ไม่จำเป็นต้อง / [mustn’t + Verb] = ต้องไม่, อย่า

ตัวอย่างประโยต [needn’t + Verb] = ไม่จำเป็นต้อง

(คุณไม่จำเป็นต้องขับเร็วมากหรอกเรายังมีเวลาอีกเยอะ)
You needn’t do your homework today: there is no school tomorrow.
(เธอไม่จำเป็นต้องทำการบ้านวันนี้ก็ได้ พรุ่งนี้ไม่เปิดเรียน)
You needn’t come with us if you don’t want to.
(คุณไม่ต้องไปกับเราก็ได้ถ้าไม่อยากไป)

ตัวอย่างประโยค [mustn’t + Verb] = ต้องไม่, อย่า

You mustn’t drive over 90 km/hr. It is forbidden.
(คุณต้องไม่ขับเร็วเกิน 90 กม/ชม เขาห้าม)
You mustn’t park here. It is forbidden.
(อย่าจอดรถที่นี่ เขาห้ามจอด)
Tanggwa mustn’t eat so much: it make her fat.
(แตงกวาต้องไม่ทานอาหารมากไป มันทำให้เธออ้วน)
You mustn’t smoke here. It is forbidden.
(อย่าสูบบุหรี่ ที่นี่เขาห้ามสูบ)
You mustn’t walk in the middle of the road because it is dangerous.
(อย่าเดินกลางถนน มันอันตราย)
You mustn’t make a loud noise. Our baby is asleep.
(อย่าส่งเสียงดังนะ ลูกของพวกเรากำลังหลับอยู่)
The doctor said I mustn’t smoke so much.
(หมอบอกไม่ให้ฉันสูบบุหรี่มากไป)
