ตอนที่แล้วเราได้ทบทวนเรื่องการใช้ before / after กันไปแล้ว ตอนนี้เรามาทดสอบความรู้ด้วยการทำแบบฝึกหัดกันหน่อยนะคะ เพื่อนๆ ลองทำให้เสร็จก่อนแล้วค่อยเลื่อนลงไปดูเฉลยแบบฝึกหัดในตอนท้ายนะคะ
Conjugate the verbs in brackets based on the time context in the sentences below.

เฉลยแบบฝึกหัด before/after
1) Tanggwa had already eaten before Somchai arrived for the meeting.
แตงกวาได้ทานเสร็จแล้วก่อนที่สมชายมาเพื่อการประชุม
had already eaten (past perfect)… arrived (past simple)
เนื่องจากโจทย์กำหนดให้ใช้ already (เสร็จสมบูรณ์แล้ว) เราจึงใช้ past perfect tense กับเหตุการณ์ที่เกิดก่อนและ past simple tense กับเหตุการณ์ที่เกิดทีหลัง
2) I had prepared dinner before my friend arrived yesterday evening.
เมื่อเย็นวันวานฉันได้เตรียมอาหารมื้อค่ำก่อนเพื่อนฉันก็มา
เราใช้ had prepared (past perfect) … arrived (past simple) หมายความว่า ฉันได้เตรียมอาหารเสร็จแล้วก่อนเพื่อนฉันมา
หรือเราอาจพูดว่า I prepared dinner before my friend arrived yesterday evening.
ถ้าเราใช้ prepared (past simple) … arrived (past simple) เราหมายความว่า พอฉันเตรียมอาหารเสร็จเพื่อนฉันก็มา (ในเวลาใกล้ๆ กัน)
3. We will go out for drinks after we get to the hotel next Tuesday.
ฉันจะออกไปหาเครื่องดื่มหลังจากไปถึงโรงแรมในวันอังคารหน้า
will go (future) … get (present simple)
ประโยคมีคำว่า next Tuesday เป็นการพูดถึงอนาคต (future) เราจึงใช้ present simple tense ตามหลัง after
4) Before I answered his question, he had told me his secret.
ก่อนที่ฉันจะตอบคำถามเขาได้บอกความลับของเขา(แล้ว)
หรือเราอาจจะใช้ answered… told ก็ได้นะคะ คล้ายๆ กับข้อ 2 ค่ะ
5) They had finished the discussion one hour before Sutee changed his mind.
พวกเขาได้เจรจากันเสร็จไปแล้วหนึ่งชั่วโมงก่อนที่สุธีร์จะเปลี่ยนใจ
had finished (past perfect) … changed (past simple)
ข้อนี้เวลาต่างกันชัดเจน(one hour) เราใช้ past perfect tense กับเหตุการณ์ที่เกิดก่อนและ past simple tense กับเหตุการณ์ที่เกิดทีหลัง
6) One hour after they had finished the discussion, Sutee changed his mind.
หนึ่งชั่วโมงหลังจากพวกเขาได้เจรจากันเสร็จไปแล้ว สุธีร์ก็เกิดเปลี่ยนใจ

สำหรับข้อนี้เหตุการณ์ที่เกิดขึ้นเป็นประจำ(every evening) เราจึงใช้ present simple tense กับทั้งสองประโยคค่ะ
8) After I finish the report, I will hand in my homework to the teacher tomorrow.
หลังจากที่เสร็จสิ้นการทำรายงานฉันจะส่งมอบบ้านให้กับครูในวันพรุ่งนี้
finish (present)… will hand (future)
ประโยคใช้คำว่า tomorrow พูดถึงอนาคต (future) เราจึงใช้ present simple tense ตามหลัง after
หมายเหตุ: hand in หมายถึง ส่ง(รายงาน หรือการบ้าน) นะคะ
9) Before she left, she had given everyone a present.
หรืออาจจะใช้ Before she left, she gave everyone a present.
ก่อนที่เธอจะจากไปเธอได้ให้ของขวัญแก่ทุกคน
10) I’ll do another job after I finish this one.
ฉันจะทำงานอื่นอีกหลังจากเสร็จงานนี้
will do เป็น future จึงใช้ finish (present simple) ตามหลัง after

ไม่ยากใช่ไหมคะสำหรับแบบฝึกหัดการใช้ before / after เพื่อนๆ อาจจะงงสักหน่อยสำหรับการใช้ before, after เชื่อมประโยคเหตุการณ์ในอดีต ว่าเราใช้ past simple กับทั้งสองประโยคอย่างในข้อ 2 ได้ด้วยเหรอ ตรงนี้เราแค่จะบอกเอาไว้เผื่อว่าเวลาเพื่อนๆ ไปเจอจะได้เข้าใจว่าผู้พูดเค้าหมายถึงอย่างนี้นะ ส่วนเวลาทำข้อสอบเพื่อนๆ ก็ใช้ past perfect tense กับเหตุการณ์ที่เกิดก่อนและ past simple tense กับเหตุการณ์ที่เกิดทีหลัง ไปได้เลยค่ะ แบบนี้ไม่ผิดไวยากรณ์ภาษาอังกฤษแน่นอน ขอบคุณมากนะคะที่ติดตามกันมาโดยตลอด
